Fair enough, I only picked up on one point. Firstly, Tigers' new money is only partly on players. Alot of these guys who've signed are doing so because Telford are giving them the chance to develop a career outwith playing, as part of the academy programme, which is the real innovation that the owner has funded. Secondly, that they de-stabilising the league: all teams are skint, as you say. That's true of all but maybe a couple of teams across Britain as a whole. We'll see how the next season pans out. It looks like Flames, P'boro, Steeldogs and, probably, Phoenix are upping their game to compete in a certain knowledge that Telford's injection will stimulate crowds to cover that extra investment. Telford have not bought the title - they still have win games and it's clear that a number of teams are not sitting back to let them. In short, the EPL is likely to become even more competitive. And that grows interest and crowds. This 'development' status you keep holding to IS becoming redundant. Development for what? To move up to the Elite? Those chances are becoming slimmer as the Elite moves to become the nouveau-ISL. We know what happened to that. No, the EPL is becoming the location of choice for Brits to play.

The notion that the EPL can be considered a 'development' league is quickly becoming redundant. It is becoming an entity in itself. The trickle of Brits from the Elite to the EPL is fast becoming a stream as they realise that the chances for ice time are fast becoming remote. Alot of EPL teams get bigger crowds than some Elite teams, certainly Tigers regularly get more than Caps, and growing. Sure, the quality of players is higher in the Elite but that doesn't necessarily translate to entertainment. I speak as someone who, last season, saw more matches in the Elite outwith the MIR (I have pretty much given up caring about Caps) and yet more in the EPL. I can honestly say that I enjoyed the passion and competitiveness in the lower league more. I don't think I'm alone in that. As the Elite inexorably moves to greater numbers of imports I can see that trend growing.

I also personally think Telford will move to the EIHL in a couple of seasons time.

Moreover, signing Weaver and Silverthorn (both guys winding down their careers) is more about having class players to inspire and bring on the Brits, rather than a prelude to an Elite application - certainly within the next couple of years. Again, the Elite has no plan to do that. It's more about NA coaches being able to give their chums from back home a chance of playing for cash that they don't get there.

QUOTE (MC5 @ May 23 2014, 09:41 ) *
Telford buying higher quality is forcing the likes of Guildford to buy better too which isn't good for the likes of MK, Peterborough and Bracknell. Really does emphasise how much we miss the BNL.

I also personally think Telford will move to the EIHL in a couple of seasons time.

Who knows? But the business plan for Tigers is to be self-financing soon. That can be achieved within the EPL with more bums on seats. Plus there is a definite emphasis on playing Brits - which is clearly NOT in the Elite's plan (assuming they have one). So I would say the owner is open-minded about where they play.

And, anyway, Cesky has gone on to the IOW and Craze gave up (didn't he?)

Why did I ever deny myself exposure to your relentless application of fact, Chester? But, as they say, never let the facts get in the way of a good argument. So, SN puts it down to cash and the MIR, just. Could it not also be his lack of ambition, lack-lustre promotion, or initiative? The image of Caps as permanent also-rans is well and truly set in stone.

We would take all the Elite league players they have signed in a heartbeat.

Only too true. You do wonder, or at least I do, what SN's reputation is like amongst existing Elite players as a potential employer. I'm not trying too hard, but the last player I can recall coming from another team is Hutchins. And he soon got away. It can't be all down to cash, methinks.

What are Telford up to? They are basically putting together an Elite squad.

Hardly. Two veterans close to the end of their Elite shelf life and two young D's who are unlikely to get much ice time under the new rules hardly constitutes an Elite line-up. The new money put into Tigers is partly to build the fan-base and partly to build an 'academy' of local youngsters. The owner has made it clear that he wants to increase the public profile locally of hockey first and foremost. Personally, I hope Tigers DON'T necessarily aim for the Elite (as currently constituted) and he has said to me privately (for here is an owner who DOES communicate with the fans!) that that is his feeling, too.

Much like the two above replies, though if the apathy hasnt completely set in, I hope Scott is prepared for some rather vocal fan wrath. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

He will be. And will use his one skill - a long convoluted drone-athon, which will bore the audience into submission.

No, Bison and Phantoms.

Was good but past it now, his major skill now is extravagant diving so he may bring some undeserved 5 on 4's to Caps. Or not. He jumped ships on Telford after a dozen games and went to Bison missing out on this season's bounty of a new Tigers' owner. Been gassed by two teams since that error of judgement. It's one thing to be a journeyman opportunist, another to be an unlucky one. . You may guess, I shan't be rushing down to catch him.

Have to agree. .......SN has let us down badly this season both with the squad and lack of explanation why it has been this way. Perhaps next season he should put some of HIS money in. The same money he has taken out.

Speaking as a whinger from way back when, I'm shocked to hear this from Val, who's always been a fair-minded contributor to this forum. SN should be even more shocked. When I made similar comments a couple of years ago and Scott warned me off the forum. As a result I cannot bring myself to care much anymore, only cherry-picking the matches I attend - and precious few at that. He should now be seriously worried, though I doubt he will.

Best match I've been to in ten years at MIR! Had to leave promptly, I guess Horna got MOM, but it ought to have been Portwood - he was immense!

Why no report of the game-changing event in this match (according to those who were there) - the non-appearance of Dobron after the first period? How did this happen?

How come there's no comment about the best player being left off the teamsheet? Or is a lack of professionalism of the Caps taken as a given?

I, too, am delighted to have Dobron back. But.....the SN policy of cobbling things together at the past-the-last moment. It doesn't work. The team are using the first half to a dozen games to get to know one another and to get match fit (incurring injuries in doing so). The big 'but' for me is I don't now bother to come to these. Haven't done so for a couple of seasons now. It's just too dispiriting. How many others feel the same? Frankly, I can't see Richard stomaching it for another season, either.

He always was a bit of a hard case. Just wondering if there's not a little resentment on his part towards Caps forcing him to commute to Dundee to move on.

Brilliant joke about him on THF: "I live on the second floor." Puzzled, you young persons? Look up Suzanne Vega on Spotify. Great potential for wordsmiths to come up with a customised song for him.

I'd like to fair to the guy. He says that he's spent a season in a league that trains much harder than ours. Can a mature player improve that much? He has played a season under Richard, so RH must be OK with his signing. That season he played on a D missing Petrina for half the time with only Valecko and Sladok (no great asset, IMO). He was a whole-hearted player, gave his all. I agree with other posters that he was inclined to give away the puck though often because he tried to pass out of D quickly.
I don't know. Tend to agree with the Doctor, this does smack of Groundhog Day. Reaney is our marquee signing, and we're left with picking up bin ends to fill the roster - probably (if previous seasons are anything to go by) - a quarter into the season. Not encouraging.

Looks a promising signing. Just hope all those 'enforcer' fans don't expect him to be throwing punches around willy-nilly ( a la Stefishen - with the resultant short-handed shifts ). I can't think Richard will want that. After all, we performed above our roster last season without trying to duff up everyone. If his forte is as a pesky pest, well and good. His stats look as if he delivers points on the board without a phenomenal PIM'S tally.

Agreed. He clearly sees himself as a work in progress and not as the finished article and understands that RH is one of the, few, coaches capable of bringing guys on.
