The only question I'd have is where this leaves the Brits in the pecking order.

The majority are playing well enough to maintain their ice time, Boyd and Speirs in particular. None have been getting benched after a mistake either. I reckon they'll be fine.

and it means it's highly likely that we won't be bringing in the defenseman we clearly need.

Scott says otherwise in the EEN today.

Dont disagree with the rest though.

What were the D pairings tonight? Can't help but feel we could do with a couple of solid North American d-men back there.

Raz-Trakhanov

Teslyukevich-Plews

Grigors-King

Nationality isnt the issue. Size, forward thinking D men and forwards not doing their job right is the issue.

First period - ok.

Third period - very good

Second period - One of the worst I've ever seen. Made one of the worst looking Belfast teams, look like they'd compete in the NHL.

Defensively, that was absolutely terrible. Worse than anything Dobron's team put out last season and lets face it, that was the worst we'd seen at Murrayfield. The D and team D, needs a vast overhaul already.

Whilst there are understandable concerns about Shegalo, he was left high and dry tonight (fifth goal apart, when his positioning was poor), despite playing reasonably well. The team will continually be punished if they allow such chances for opposing teams as they did tonight. Credit for the third period comeback but it should not have got there in the first place.

Some positives - I thought the Islamov-Boyd-Speirs line linked well. I've been very impressed with Speirs. He looks a good addition. Cazzola's goal was an absolute beauty.

A concern as I think he was the second import signed

He was the first but it really depends on the circumstances of how and where his Visa office is, similar to Fully last season and how they arrange the meetings and getting it back to the applicant. That said, I'm not particularly concerned tbh. He's just waiting for it to be in his hand.

QUOTE (Alan D @ Sep 10 2017, 10:32 ) *
I think the poor attendances at both games yesterday highlights the mistake of selling only daily or weekend tickets up until the last few days, sadly no webcast either, another missed opportunity to widen the audience.

There's been chat that 3 teams were more than happy to have a webcast but one wasnt (and it was pulled after being briefly advertised during the week). I'll leave you to decide who the one was.

QUOTE (Alan D @ Sep 10 2017, 10:32 ) *
We all know people have limited funds available, so why put added pressure on that by insisting daily/weekend tickets. Add to that the travelling expenses, food and any additional purchases in the rink.

Correct. I didnt go because I couldnt afford a whole day ticket and by the time the single game tickets were available, I'd already made other plans. I suspect there were many others in the same situation. Unfortunately, organisation and the Elite League dont go together.

Good and sensible decision to sell single game tickets. I now look forward to the Caps match tomorrow and glad I haven't paid £30.

Plenty who have already paid for the weekend, seem to disagree its a 'good and sensible decision'.

Easy to see both sides of the argument tbf.

Debuts for Tvrdon and Teslyukevich.

Latvian D man Martins Jakolevs plays as a trialist.

QUOTE (5on3 @ Sep 3 2017, 22:08 ) *
Well what an exciting game that was

Cant agree with that. I thought the game was quite flat for the majority and fairly typical of a preseason game.

Despite going two down, I felt we were the better team in the first. The second was huff and puff and little else, though it was clear the third they got a rocket up their **** and responded accordingly.

Very impressed with Valeyev. He looks the part, though it was clear he was knackered by the end. Banashkov also looks a good addition.

We definitely need a BIG defenseman though and sharpish.

QUOTE (Simon @ Sep 4 2017, 14:35 ) *
So, were we still missing Islamov, Teslyukevich, Vorobyev amd new boy Tvrdon, or did he ice?

Good to get the first win of the season, even if it's only pre-season.

The former two are here but dont have their equipment apparently. Pav's Visa is due any day and Trvdon should be flying in shortly (thankfully no Visa needed for him!).

QUOTE (Arthur Chance @ Sep 4 2017, 12:49 ) *
This Scottish cup weekend was announced 2nd June, so must have been planned by the end of May. That's long before any teams had any fixtures organised, so you're wrong to say it couldn't have been put on at the weekend there.

If you think they, and the rest of the League, havent discussed fixtures well in advance of the 'fixtures meeting', you're being highly naive.

There's plenty of fans, of all teams, who are foregoing their football teams to go to this weekend. Unfortunately, you're not one of them and thats understandable.

QUOTE (Arthur Chance @ Sep 4 2017, 12:49 ) *
As for the face-off times, if you're going up against football then say 5.15pm and 8pm could have worked for the two semi-finals.

If there's overtime in both games? Dont fancy it would encourage families to come when you could be leaving close, or past, Midnight, with those face off times. And not to mention, the rink will have had a say in what the faceoff time would be as well.

Clearly the times are bit tight with Hearts playing at Murrayfield, but I wouldnt be blaming the four teams when Ms Budge forgot to hit 'checkout' on the seats for the new stand. That said, it causes little issue when Scotland are playing at home, I doubt it'll cause too many issues with a crowd half the size.

Like I said I wish the Scottish cup had been played this weekend past when there's been No football to compete with it.

I'd take that up with the other 3 teams, the Elite League and the rink. Same goes for the lack of one off game tickets.

I thought I read he had a British passport so wouldn't take an import slot?

He does have a British passport. He wouldnt need a visa but he'll take an import slot because he isnt trained here. Like LC, I wasnt massively impressed with him either.

As for the game, I quite enjoyed it. I thought Cazzola and Anderson looked good together. Cazzola's foot speed is absolutely incredible and Anderson appears to be no slouch either. The Brits looked a lot more confident already and Caly Robertson's goal was an absolute belter. Trakhanov will add points from the blue line and despite his small stature, looked good defensively too.

I'm hoping we can keep that size of crowd into the season as well!

Yes it may be harsh but that's what running a professional sports team involves

In the context of this season, its probably being overly harsh. To even have as many as 12 here, for the end of August (and the extra high cost that brings, more than the other teams in the league), is actually excellent. In fact, for the Caps, thats pretty much unheard of. We've two still waiting on visas, both of whom who have been waiting for around a month. Its almost the luck of draw when they get the rubber stamp to come over, and Braehead are finding that out (and have done in the past) too, with their fans saying they might not have all their players for the start of season, if they even make for then. We arent the only team with visa issues over the years, but you'd think the way some go on, we are. It'll be exacerbated by 'same old Caps' and the fact you'll put your own team under more scrutiny.

I'm usually one of the first to have a good moan, either here or on other forms of social media, but I'm actually pretty impressed with the team this preseason.

This is a tad unfortunate, as according to the latest news article posted on the Caps app, the schedule for the Scottish Cup weekend is:

Saturday 9th:
Caps -v- Clan, 2pm
Flyers -v- Stars, 5.30pm

Sunday 10th:
3rd place match, 3pm
Final, 6.30pm

However, if you follow the link in the same article to the Ticketsource website to buy tickets for the weekend, it has the Saturday games the other way round... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Oh, and the link doesn't actually work properly either.

I know it's Friday and everyone is looking forward to the weekend, but a little bit of extra effort might be required by the Caps media team!

Clan PR:

http://www.braeheadclan.com/news/3657/news...ml#.WaBke3SQzX4

Caps vs Clan, they say, is the second game, as does the EIHL site:

http://www.eliteleague.co.uk/view/eliteice...ews/news_491438

Going through ticketsource on the main site, when I do that, doesnt even have the times of each semi! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

QUOTE (racerkel @ Aug 25 2017, 12:46 ) *
And Hearts v Dons at 3 pm Murrayfield on the Saturday so a 2 pm face off would be,to put it mildly, unfortunate.
A definitive answer from the Caps is required quickly ,please.

A definitive answer to what? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
